natty’s art

before i begin, i want you to know i don’t know this person – but browsing through flickr to get some pics up there at the top of the page, i stumbled onto this art by this artist, natty aka natalie kocsis. it’s just plain amazing.

i love the cacophany of texture which emerges from her work aswell as the overworked cartoony feel. it’s like witnessing a dark pink floyd moment scratched together by someone who’s heard about the kind of art that’s in childrens books and thinks they’ll give it a damn good go but can’t see why an abundance of horror and nastiness embedded into the feel of a painting is a bad thing to give a three-year old.

i love this particular set here, and it’s heightened by the obvious mood of the gallery and the lighting which is just warm and amazingly good for the painting. you can see the lethal undertones to the work, and if you visit her site you’ll get a feel for what she’s doing and it’s a good thing, i assure you.

being in australia, i don’t get out to many art exhibitions in nyc, but if i were pursuaded to move to homicide central, i might just brave the subway to go and see some of these.

to sum: wow.
